Paintball Safety needs not to be just an idea, but a way to play our sport.

Never begin play until all players have a Paintball Mask on and in place. The straps on the mask must be tightly adjusted.  This is done to keep paintball debris fromgetting into your eyes.  Always use paintball industry approved masks.  DO NOT USE SHOP GOGGLES, SKI GOGGLES, OR SUNGLASSES AS THESE ARE NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO WITHSTAND A DIRECT PAINTBALL HIT. YOU ONLY HAVE ONE PAIR OF EYES!

A good paintball pro shop or field will have CHRONOGRAPHS for checking ball speed, when shot from a paintball marker.  The speed should never be more than 300 fps.  Make sure your paintballs are not traveling any faster than 300 feet per second (“cranking up” the velocity of your marker only causes more balls to break in your barrel and less accuracy – while also having the potential to hurt your fellow players)  Most markers are designed to shoot the best at 280 fps.

Do not turn off the trigger safety switch until the game has begun. Turn the safety back on immediately at the end of the game.

NEVER SHOOT SPECTATORS WHO ARE NOT IN THE GAME!   They will not be prepared for the attack and will be more likely to be injured.

Always use a barrel sleeve or barrel condom these provide the best protection.  The elastic cord when stretched and properly secured to the paint gun stack or grip will prevent an accidental misfire from exiting the barrel and will also contain the mess.  At least use a barrel plug....these are not the best, but much better than nothing at all.

Always treat the paintball gun as a real gun.  Never look down the barrel of the gun.  Always remove the propellant from the marker and insure that the propellant is totally discharged from the gun and the cocking spring is at rest.

Storage and transportation:  When transporting your paintball gun, the hopper and propellant tank should be removed from the gun  Safety switch should be on and the marker should be turned off. If marker is to be stored for a period of time, then the battery should be removed.

Transportaion in a motor vehicle: Some states require that you have your paintball gun broken down, like a real gun. They classify paintball markers as weapons. Should be transported in a bag or a case.

Transportation by air.  FFA rules require that a paintball cylinder be broken down (this needs to be done by a competent airsmith) no propellant can be in the marker and shipping must be done in cargo. Check by airline as some have even stricter rules.  May be better to ship by UPS.

CO2 Tanks and Compressed Air tanks have a hydro date on the cannister.  They have a 5 year before needing to be rechecked  date will look like (04@05)  meaning tank was tested April 2005 can not be filled after April 2010 with out re-inspection.  There are some tanks that do not need to be re-hydrod,  but use is subject to the condition of the tank.  Never tamper with the tanks.  Have a certified trained tech check or repair your tanks.

If you are playing in an unfamiliar area; take time to walk the field.  Be aware of broken bottles, barbed wire, holes, or any other thing that might injure you while playing.

The last word of caution.  DO NOT FREEZE PAINTBALLS AND SHOOT PLAYERS!  This is like shooting someone with a steel ball bearing.  It can put eyes out and can kill or mame.

Thanks for looking at our safety reminders.

SPECIAL NOTE:  DO NOT TRY TO MAKE BARRELS WORK ON YOUR MARKER THAT WERE NOT DESIGNED FOR IT.  Use barrel adapters designed for gun and barrel thread.
